Heroic Train Employee Suffers Critical Wounds During Multiple Stabbing Incident on High-Speed Train
A brave railway staff member who intervened to protect passengers during a mass knife incident on a high-speed train has sustained critical wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
Particulars of the Frightening Event
CCTV video allegedly depicts the employee trying to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and Huntingdon in the county. Bystanders described a terrifying 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with injured victims running through carriages.
The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in detention for interrogation. Police declared a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.
Crisis Response and Consequences
The incident on Saturday night led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have now been discharged from medical care.
A witness recorded the individual waving a big knife and being subdued with a Taser as he faced officers on the platform. He was allegedly heard shouting, "Kill me, kill me."
“This terrible incident has affected many people. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the brave employee of rail staff whose relatives are being assisted by trained officers,” stated a senior police official.
Union Response and Calls for Action
Rail unions were swift to praise employees and call for increased measures. A labor official stated he would be “requesting urgent discussions with authorities, rail employers and police to guarantee that we have the strongest possible support, tools and robust procedures in operation”.
Another association leader encouraged the rail company and government “to act swiftly to review safety, to help the affected workers, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.
Operator Praised for Rapid Action
The operator who halted the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been commended by union officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.
“The driver did not halt the service in the center of two stations where it’s clearly challenging for the emergency services to reach, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much waiting,” explained a union representative.

Police said they received the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.
One observer recounted initially thinking if the situation was a Halloween joke, but soon realized from people's faces that it was real.
Police have stated there is nothing to suggest the event was a terror-related attack and have asked the community to provide with any further information.
