UK Military Facilities to House Asylum Seekers in Initiative to End Hotel Use
Numerous asylum seekers could be accommodated in armed forces facilities as the government aims to phase out the utilization of temporary lodging.
Talks are ongoing regarding the utilization of two locations - a facility in the Scottish region and the other in the English south - for housing for 900 male individuals.
The PM has directed Home Office and Ministry of Defence officials to accelerate efforts to locate suitable military sites.
The government has vowed to terminate the operation of asylum hotels, which have cost billions of pounds and turned into a central issue for immigration opposition demonstrations.
Proposed Defense Locations
Asylum seekers could be accommodated in the Cameron military facility in the Scottish city and Crowborough military training facility in the southern county by the end of next month.
Manufacturing locations, temporary accommodation and otherwise disused accommodation are also being considered for future accommodation.
Administration Statements
Administration officials indicated that every facility would adhere to wellbeing requirements.
"We are extremely concerned at the extent of illegal migrants and asylum hotels."
"The current leadership will close each temporary accommodation facility. Efforts are advancing rapidly, with additional appropriate locations being brought forward to reduce burden for communities and reduce migrant housing expenditures."
Existing Housing Data
Nearly thirty-two thousand individuals seeking protection are at this time being sheltered in hotel facilities, representing a drop from a maximum of over fifty-six thousand in the previous year.
A current assessment found that multiple billions of government revenue had been "wasted" on migrant shelter.
Prior Military Facility Operation
Two former military sites - the Wethersfield facility in Essex and the Napier facility in southeastern England - are presently being operated to accommodate refugee applicants after being established under the prior leadership.
The Prime Minister remarked on the circumstances, indicating: "I am determined to terminate every refugee hotel. Words cannot describe how troubled and alarmed I am that we've been left with a mess as substantial as the current circumstances by the last government."
